Inspired to share them with you, we are excited to announce Fit52 Life: a monthly series featuring the routines, recipes, and rhythms that motivate members of our fitness community to stay the path.
We thought it would only be fitting to begin the series with the woman who started it all—Carrie Underwood. Carrie has had a personal dedication to health and wellness since being a kid obsessed with sports. After winning American Idol in 2005, Carrie was faced with the challenge of balancing the pressures of her career with her natural passion for fitness. Through her own experience, Carrie developed what eventually became the fit52 philosophy—doing your best most of the time during the week, 52 weeks of the year.

What’s your secret to starting the day off right?
A good, challenging fit52 workout in the morning is what gets my day started off right. Sometimes Mike and I are able to work out together, and other times we take turns in our home gym while the other is on kid duty. I love having him as a workout partner when I can.
How do you honor your body and stay active?
While I’m on tour I have no problem staying active because I’m constantly moving on stage, and usually in heels! When I’m home, I like to find ways to make simple, day-to-day chores into exercises. My step counter really helps motivate me to keep moving. Like when I need to take something upstairs, but don’t really feel like it, I stop and think “I’ll get steps!” and it makes me want to take the laundry upstairs. Sometimes I even purposely make multiple trips. I also do things that might sound crazy, like jogging from room to room or around my kitchen while cooking dinner, or turning the chore of picking up toys into a squats workout.

Red wine is my favorite guilty pleasure. I love sitting on the sofa and having a glass after a busy day.

Eating healthy, staying active, and spending time with my boys are the things that fuel my soul.

What motivates you to stay the path?
My boys are my main motivator because I want to be around for them as they grow up. I want to know them as adults, and I want to know their children and their children’s children.
